THE EMERGENCE OF THE RASHAD SHABAZZ19 REST, RELAXATION, REST
THE HISTORY
In 1998 I was the facilitator of the Nation of Islam's Fort Myers, Florida study group. The core members of that group were myself, Brother will Muhammad, brother Walter (sloan) Muhammad and his wife Sister Annette Muhammad.
Our faith in the process of Islam as taught by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and exampled by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan produced a work ethic and friendship among us that generated instant fruits to the works that we did collectively...works that were so impactful on our living environment that the Lee county Florida Mayor's office and the Fort Myers, Florida City Council cooperated to extend the "key to the city" to me as a show of recognition, respect and appreciation.
I knew for a fact that I had done nothing of myself that warranted such recognition and honor...I also knew that it was only at the urging of one of the past presidents of the local N.A.A.C.P. , Mr. Willie Battle, that the Mayor's office even knew we existed, so I declined to accept the key and suggested that instead of recognizing me personally that the key be given to the Lost-Found Nation of Islam in the West through our regional minister Rasul Hakim Muhammad.
An agreement was reached and I reached out to the minister in Miami, Florida with the information and he accepted the commitment to come to Fort Myers and accept the key on behalf of the entire Nation of Islam on a prearranged date.
Prior to that date Minister Rasul Muhammad travelled to Fort Myers to be interviewed by some of the local media in preparation of this historic event.
Mr. Lee Pitts of the "Lee Pitts live" television program agreed to conduct the interview while the print media would observe and be allowed to question him afterwards.
On the day of the interview myself, Brother will and Brother Walter policed the entire studio and locked it down in anticipation of the Minister's arrival. During this time there was one woman there who was waiting to be interviewed by Mr. Pitts who commented that she had been there when the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Collin Powell was being interviewed and at that time there was not the degree of security for him as there was for the minister.
The Naples daily news and the owner of a newspaper called "SOUTHERN PERSPECTIVES" was also there to witness the interview. Sister Jolanda Herring was the owner of SOUTHERN PERSPECTIVES and the daughter of Christian ministers. Prior to the interview she had never in her life heard a Muslim speak on the topics covered during the interview and afterwards she commented to me that she was so blown away by the logic and delivery of the message that she had failed to take one note or write one word. She stated to me that she had , for the first time in her life, heard knowledge on scripture and sociology that she had never in her life been subject to. She asked me who we where and why hadn't her parents ever told her these things before. Her questions came to me in rapid fire succession and at last she opined that she was going to dedicate her entire next issue to the Lee Pitts interview that she had just witnessed and then she kind of snapped her fingers as a thought came to her mind and said " I'm just going to print the entire interview word for word and put only his picture on the front page and title it...'Mr. Muhammad speaks!" (lol) And that is exactly what she did with the next issue without any knowledge at all that this man's father, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, had produced a newspaper throughout the 60's and the 70's called "The Muhammad Speaks Newspaper."
On the day of the reception for the key to the city Muslims from all over the state of Florida and the Caribbean came to the event and all of the media showed up to record the process at the Dunbar Jupiter/Hammond library. Ministers from local churches, community people as well as current and past presidents of the local N.A.A.C.P. were in attendance. City Councilwoman Veronica Shoemaker spoke on behalf of the Mayor's office and presented the Nation of Islam with the key to the city of Fort Myers, Florida through minister Rasul Hakim Muhammad.
Afterwards we all went outside the venue and the minister commented to me how beautiful the neighborhood and city was. We drove to a building that we had just leased for our study group meetings and to operate a business out of from another city councilwoman Mrs. Ann Knight then we took all of the Muslims to a nice Grill for dinner called "shooters" that sat on the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caloosahatchee river.
At this grill there are docks out back that allows the wealthy people of the city to drive their multi-million dollar yachts up to the restaurant with their friends and families. After dinner about 45-50 Muslims went out to the docks to view these boats and to just enjoy the moment of each other's company before we head back into the labors of life.
It was at that time that the minister called out to me and said...in words, " Brother Rashad, I have travelled over the earth and witnessed some amazing places and I must say that I have never been to this city before today...This is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I want the hard working believers to enjoy this for themselves. I am charging you with making Fort Myers, Florida the vacation resort area for the Muslims when they take a much needed break from their labor. They should be allowed the opportunity to relax with each other and enjoy nature as a way to recharge themselves...I want you to secure fine sea vessels for them to go out into the ocean...secure properties for them to live in when they come...I want you to buy farm land and ranches to grow and raise our food for us...I am charging you with this dear brother."
All I could say was "yes sir!" but my mind was rearranged to a new process of thinking and began to design all that you will see here today at that time.
The RASHAD SHABAZZ19 RESORT is not a selfish memorialization of my own name in vainglory...it is a definition of the establishments themselves as "RASHAD" (integrity of conduct, to do the right thing in the right way at the right time, maturity of intellect, wise counsel, maturity of wisdom, good judgement...) "SHABAZZ" ( of the original nation of Muslims, perfection, Family of GOD, a people mighty and glorious...) "SHAH"=KING, RULER..."BAZZ"= new young generation. Thus SHABAZZ also defines as " a new young generation of Kings and Rulers"
The number 19 is indicated in the HOLY QURAN as the number associated with the guardian angels who stand in the gap between hell and everywhere else.
The wisdom of the name RASHAD SHABAZZ19 is a testament that the developments will be designed with a mature intention and state of mind as the perfect manifestation of a new family of Muslims who will Rule the sphere of their lives by the logic of the process of Islam.

I am a firm believer in the express and the implied language of the Holy Quran, thus, when our LORD tells us that HE has created the human being to be Muslim and Khalifah I understand the obligation to be the custodian of creation in a way that guides it gently along the lines of it's nature towards it's eventual perfection. The condominium aspect of the properties will offer the owners not only the finest of living environments but it will also come with a non-transferable ownership portion in the resort. This ownership portion is inextricably intertwined with each condominium unit. This allows the unit owners to invest in themselves and to set and benefit from the culture of the resort. The plan is to offer 100 units for sale to owners that contract to uphold and comply with the culture of Islamic principles while on the property itself. This means that the women and girls will be required to wear some type of head covering on the property...the men and boys will be required to wear modest clothing on the property. There will be male and female gyms and recreational areas on the property. The owners will have unlimited access to the resort but the resort guests will only have access to the condominiums at the invite of an owner. We will have the best minds available to draft beautiful blueprints for the units and try to stay away from the cookie cutter models that we see everywhere today. My greatest desire is to give each unit a uniqueness that fits the divers personalities of the Muslim population and to create a living environment that is peaceful and relaxing for us all.
According to my initial research it would cost approximately $12,000,000 to build a 100 unit upscale condominium property with shared lobbies and amenities; however, the difference here is that the RASHAD SHABAZZ19 RESORTS are a combination property and the amenities price is is figured into the resort costs instead of the condominium costs. The rubric for building these units is as follows: (1)ARCHITECT FEES: 8-10% of the total costs (added) (2) ROOF and COVER: 10% (3) WINDOWS and DOORS: 5% (4)INTERIOR FEATURES: 3-5% (5) FOUNDATION 9% (6) MASONRY WALLS (if used in place of plywood) 9-12% (7) WALLS (wood and exterior finish) 6-10% (8) PLUMBING: 12% (9) STRUCTURAL ENGINEER FEES: $500-$20,000 (as needed) (10) CONTRACTOR or BUILDER COSTS: 25% of total costs (11) INTERIOR FINISH: 6-10% (12) FLOOR FINISH: 3-5% (13) FLOOR STRUCTURE: 12% (14) KITCHEN: 8% (15) BATH DETAIL: 4% (16) ELECTRICAL 10%.
Another option is a modular condominium construction which is all the rage these days because of the low costs and the fact that the units are built off site in buildings and assembled on the site of the project resulting in fewer weather delays and stronger buildings. The prices vary depending on the area but they generally move between the ranges of $125-$150 per square foot, making this construction more affordable, especially for luxury high rises.
The profit margin for the investment group is around 20-25% of the total sales costs which means that and investment in SHABAZZ L.A.B.S. LLC as the holding company of the RASHAD SHABAZZ19 RESORT franchise will bring a return over principle of $10,000,000 if the investment runs into the $40,000,000 range; however, if we produce a modulated project the profit margin increases exponentially to $15-$20,000,000 easily.
These numbers are only speculation right now as we cooperate to decide on how we will build...what we will build and the property price and location...as well as what economic breaks we can qualify for in bringing jobs to the area and business to the local and state attractions. Remember that the current generation of Muslims are upwardly mobile and would love the opportunity to live in the luxury of an Islamic atmosphere so let's be the first to provide them the facility and the opportunity to do so.

There has to be a balance in the human life agenda that allows room for ritual worship, social worship, economic worship, educational worship and the systematic worship by the entire family through our cooperation with each other on every level of life. Oft-times we get so caught up in the rituals of our faith that the maintenance of those obligations become burdens that we tire of bearing. It is at those times that you will see the Muslims discipline wax and wane. The prophet Muhammad(saw) is reported to have said that faith ebbs and flows...meaning that some days you will be alert and strong in your discipline and faith while at other times you will neglect certain things as a show of weakness and signs of hypocrisy. This does not mean that you are a hypocrite...it only means that you exhibit signs of hypocrisy in your language and actions that show you to be a living contradiction. The worshipers need healing! The Imams, Scholars, Ministers and Doctors have the knowledge to effect the healing be it the will of ALLAH (SWT), but many of them need healing and recharging also...who will heal the healers??? That is why I desire that the resorts be clearly named for "RESTORATION."
The RASHAD SHABAZZ19 RESORTS must have areas for this process...Tranquil areas that allow your minds to slow down and "dhzikr"...remember, reflect and contemplate your purpose and obligations...areas that provide outlets for your angers and frustrations with life and then allows you options to solve those problems in the most effective way...the ways of GOD! Masjids for prayer...Temples for study...halls for teaching and speeches...libraries for research! All of these things are non-negotiable in the development process of the resorts. They are essential and without them the entire project will be a failure regardless to the monetary success and rewards. Who is with me on this journey??? I am not the brightest or the most learned in the process of building and development of facilities such as these; however, i plan to surround myself with the greatest minds on earth in this area and manage them...coach them all towards the perfection of the endeavor..so come on dear family...let's get this done.
